Maternity Life...Coming to a Close!

For those of you who have been following along with my personal life, you know my husband and I are expecting a new addition to our family!  Baby girl Tresko is coming...SOON!  I'm currently 37 weeks along and for those of you who don't know pregnancy math very well, that means I'm THREE weeks away from my due date!  It's an exciting, overwhelming, nerve-wrecking feeling to say the least.

While my career as a photographer has been an adventure and very fulfilling, I feel like my whole life has really been geared towards becoming a mom.  Since I was young, it's the one thing I knew for sure that I wanted to be when I grew up.  I have an amazing mom who was very involved growing up and has been a wonderful support for me to this day.  I'd say that's one of the biggest reasons I've always known motherhood was a goal in life; because I wanted to be just like her.  In all honestly as the due date approaches though, I'm a ball of mixed emotions.  I blame hormones too, haha!  So much to prepare for, yet everyone says you can never be 100% ready and I 100% believe that.  There's just a lot of adjustments at once, including our move from California to Washington! I'm definitely missing the sunshine and warmer weather and of course my friends. Life has felt far from normal, but I know God has a plan for us here and with a baby on the way, I know life will be sweeter once she's in my arms!

Now for some photo fun!  In preparation for baby girl's arrival, I couldn't NOT do a maternity shoot to document this time in our life. The wonderful Jessi from Jecka & Co. Photography  was gracious enough to drive down from Livermore to the enchanting Nestldown for our maternity session.  We made sure to get in our photo shoot before our big move. It was so awesome to be able to capture some of my own memories at Nestldown; the venue I've shot at countless times over the years.  Using all film, Jessi delivered some gorgeous images to us and I'm super grateful!!  Here are just a few of my favorites below :)

Vantage Point

For me, photography is an art.  It's an outlet, a vision, and a canvas.  There's obviously different types of photography, whether it's the subject matter or the style of editing, but it's subjective I believe.  I've been a photographer for roughly 7 years now (give or take some college years) and it's been quite the journey to finding my style, my preference and really honing in on what makes my photography my own!  I'm sure my art will evolve, as most artists' work does, but that's what keeps it fresh, modern and interesting, right?

I've found over the years, that while I do love photographing people and the organic moments that unfold between a bride and groom or a mom and son (whatever it may be), I also enjoy traveling and capturing beautiful landscapes. It's funny though, even though I've had the amazing opportunity to travel to numerous countries around the world, one of my favorite photos was taken just recently at an engagement shoot in my own backyard!  Well not literally my own backyard, being that I don't actually have a backyard, but just an hour away in the heart of the Bay Area: San Francisco!

Camera: Canon 5D Mark III       Lens: 100mm f/2.8 Macro     ISO: 100         Aperture: 2.8           Shutter speed: 1/1250 sec.

Camera: Canon 5D Mark III      Lens: 100mm f/2.8 Macro

ISO: 100        Aperture: 2.8          Shutter speed: 1/1250 sec.

It was literally my last shot of the session and the sun was just about to set, which made for the perfect silhouetting of the Golden Gate Bridge.  I had just finished taking some macro shots of the engagement ring and stood up to see this gorgeous scene before my eyes.  I didn't give my lens much thought and just snapped the photo.  Sometimes a picture doesn't need much thought, just a good eye for what's already in front of you!  There really is something so magical about that "golden hour" though. Depending on your camera settings, it can make for some bright and ethereal shots or more dramatic, silhouettes. Below the photo you'll see the camera and settings, in case you ever want to try to recreate it yourself!

This photo is apart of the #VantagePoint project for the company, Light, who will be releasing their new compact camera later on this year! If you're interested in seeing more photos from the Vantage Point project, check out their Pinterest board.

Costa Rica Chapter 3: Monteverde & Santa Elena

I've finally reached the end of my series of my Costa Rica travels!  This post is full of adventures through our stay in Monteverde & Santa Elena and was definitely the highlight of our trip!  We started off on a Cafè de Monteverde coffee plantation tour (which deserves a whole post of it's own really) and it was full of information not only about coffee, but of the town itself. It defnitely was all very interesting to learn! As coffee lovers ourselves, it was nice to see the creation and life of a bean from birth to final product. Gives me that much more respect for daily cup of coffee (ok more like 2-3 cups). Besides our coffee tour, we indulged in a zip-lining canopy tour which was amaaazing!  Unfortunately most of this experience lives only in my memory as I did decide to leave my valuables back at our place.  Sorry, I got scared I'd drop my precious DSLR! Another big highlight of our stay here was of course the family we stayed with.  Teresita and Eli were such gracious hosts!  Their property is a like a forest of its own, complete with trails, plenty of wildlife and plants of all kinds.  We ended up staying just down the road from their house in a little apartment above Eli's mother and sister's house, known for it's view of the sunset (Spanish: atardecer).  It was perfect.  Private, quaint, and included a giant delicious breakfast handmade for just the two of us every morning!  The best part was the sense of community at the main house.  People from all over the world were staying in the cabins on the property and we got to meet a bunch of fellow travelers!  If you read through my last post, you know how much I love meeting new people and how it makes the trip so much better and the memories that much more valuable to me.  I'll keep this post short, as I know there's lot of photos below!  Just a forewarning, our trek through the Santa Elena Reserve was in the heart of a cloud forest (persistently moist and foggy terrain) and it was something out of a movie to me!  There was all encompassing green.  Everywhere.  Bright green leaves, moss, ferns, bushes just surrounding us.  I feel like my photos don't do it justice, but hopefully you still get a sense of the sheer variety of flora and fauna and ethereal beauty that lives in Costa Rica!  Pura Vida!!

Visited this little cafe on more than one occasion!  Below is the traditional way to brew Costa Rican coffee.  Got one of these as a souvenir as well! As an avid craft beer drinker, Nick definitely grew weary of seeing pretty much only three varieties of beer everywhere we went.  My husband was a happy camper when we found this little gem in the heart of Santa Elena!
