Such a fun session with the Nuno family! I had the pleasure of connecting with them when Marc’s brother reached out to me just before Christmas asking about gifting a photo session. I was excited to set up the Christmas gift for him and thought it was such a great present, especially since they had never had professional family photos before! We had to wait a couple months to get something on the books due to the winter weather, but ended up with a beautiful spring day at Point Defiance Park! Bridget and Marc’s 16-month-old daughter was just a DOLL! Her sweet rosy cheeks, infectious smile and that beautiful red hair stole the show. The best part was when we pulled out the bubbles and her face just lit up! They were such a great family and it was a wonderful afternoon shoot.

Weddings will always hold a very special place in my heart. It’s where I got my start in this photography business and it still brings me joy to capture true love on such a monumental day! But the more I photograph newborn sessions, the more in love I fall with documenting one of the deepest loves that exist: the love of a parent for their child. It’s just so beautiful and those first moments with a newborn are so fleeting! What’s the saying? The “days are long, but the years are short”! This couldn’t be more true in the life of a parent. Those early days are exhausting but they also go by so fast and before you know it, your newborn babe is a talking, waddling toddler! Which is why I’m so honored to photograph those beginning days.
Just like I love hearing how my couples got engaged, I’m always excited to hear the story of labor! It’s always so unique to each and every mama. Being that Saxon is a friend and neighbor, I got some live action updates the day of labor! At 4:30 pm on Feb 28th, 11 days past her due date, labor finally started. Not sure if it was the castor oil shake she had earlier in the day or if baby Charlotte just decided it was time, but things got moving…and quite quickly! Having planned a birth center delivery, Saxon wasn’t sure if they should head over or not because she didn’t want to be turned away if it was too early. Little did she know, baby girl was coming faster than she imagined. By the grace of God, she recalled to me that her labor wasn’t super painful, which is why she was so surprised things had progressed so fast. At about 6:30 pm, she realized Charlotte was coming soon and they wouldn’t have time to make it to the birth center. After a 911 call, Saxon ended up delivering at home and Ian “caught’ the baby just before 7:30 pm! One of the most exciting labor stories I’ve heard in awhile!
It was such a treat to come take pictures for the happy family in their new cozy home. I’m looking forward to watching Charlotte grow and having another little girl in the neighborhood for my daughter to eventually play with!
Having just celebrated my daughter’s first birthday, I’ve been reminiscing over all the first days and weeks of her life. They were hormonal, overwhelming, tiring and somehow beautiful all at the same time. I really do cherish that first part of her life. Everything was new and foreign, but so wonderful that she was finally in our arms! So whenever I do a newborn shoot now, I am taken back to those beginning weeks and remember them fondly because they were fleeting!
Jaime and Izzy honestly seemed like naturals. I came in to greet Jaime and she was ever so calmly trying to dry off little Mateo after a bath while he cried profusely. She was not phased and I loved it! She simply continued to dry him and wrap him up and all was well again. Jaime was all smiles from beginning to end. Despite the cries here and there, no one was frantic and everything went smoothly! Izzy and Jaime just looked so in love with Mateo. He was absolutely adorable...all 6 pounds of him! Just a little peanut who was wide awake for the whole session. He was full of life and they were full of love. Very happy for the two of them and hope to have many more family shoots in the future!
I absolutely love capturing these keepsake memories for expecting families! Maternity photos have quickly become one of my favorite types of portraits to shoot. There is just something so exciting about the expectant arrival of a brand new life! I was so honored when Saxon asked me to photograph this special time for her and Ian. I was lucky enough to meet Saxon earlier last year through a mutual friend in the neighborhood. She was one of the first ladies to make me feel welcome and accepted into this new circle of friends. I remember the first time meeting her, I thought she was so warm, friendly and just so sweet. After she invited me to her Bachelorette viewing parties, I knew we were destined to be good friends, haha! We’ve been fostering a great friendship ever since.
After our family photo this fall, she didn’t hesitate to ask me about shooting her maternity and newborn photos. I was super excited and very flattered! Now with just a month away ‘til her due date, I’m anxiously awaiting the arrival of their little girl. I know Grace is going to be a wonderful big sister and both girls are going to get spoiled with love from their parents. Looking forward to our newborn shoot next month!
Wild Hearts Farm is a photographer’s wonderland! It’s a tucked away gem in Tacoma and I’m so glad I found it. When Jami was looking to do a one year shoot for her baby girl, she had visions of a pumpkin patch session since Ellia was born just before Halloween. In our search for just the right spot, Jami found Wild Hearts Farm and suggested we book the shoot there. It was the perfect spot! Not only was there a mini pumpkin patch, but a cute garden area, a sweet little truck bed set up and crispy fall leaves! It was just right for the fall vibe we were going for and we had fantastic weather also! Ellia looked adorable in her one-year-old onesie and tutu. Then a quick outfit change, and we fit in some great family photos as well, all in only 30 minutes!
In another round of mini sessions, I had the privilege to photograph Rachel and her sweet family of four! Earlier in the day, it was chilly and overcast, but after 3 sessions in, the sun decided to peek through at the perfect time. We got some pretty filtered rim light through the beautiful forest and I’d say got some adorable shots! Hoping to get some more shoots in before the weather is chronically overcast!
God has shown up in so many ways this year, I just feel so grateful all the time! One big blessing has been this neighborhood that we moved to. Growing up in California, I lived in the same house for over 23 years and sadly, hardly knew my neighbors. Something I definitely made an effort to change once I moved out on my own, yet it felt so forced. No friendships ever blossomed beyond the friendly hellos passing to the laundry room! Moving up to Tehaleh in Washington has been such a different experience. It’s not an exaggeration when I say meeting Stacie Wallace changed everything and has meant more to me than she probably knows! My next door neighborhood turned amazing friend! She’s extended more invites than I can count to many playdates, walks and girls hang outs all within the neighborhood. There are so many young families and wonderful moms who live here who have welcomed me with open arms. Stacie has been the ring leader and kind soul who always thinks of me when there’s a get-together. It’s been a unique experience to actually have neighbors as friends and I’m so glad it came at a time when I really needed it. Stacie’s family is SO sweet as well and we had a great mini session just minutes from our house. Here are some of my favorites below!
Oh, new baby bliss! Being that this is my first newborn shoot since giving birth to my own little one in March, I can relate to the new parent feelings so much more! The sleep deprivation mixed with the adrenaline of visitors. The awe and wonder of all your baby's tiny features. And of course the overwhelming amount of love you have for a human that you literally just met! Janna and Liam are feeling these things and more with little two-week-old Juniper Nelle. It was such a joy to see my friends and meet their new addition. I was all too eager to take some newborn photos for them and capture this short period of time where Juniper is this tiny! Because as a mom myself now, I know the cliche, "They grow so fast," is so TRUE! Babies really do change so quickly in their first year, which is why I think it's so important to document each stage as they develop. I know without a doubt Janna and Liam are going to be amazing, loving and supportive parents. Juniper is a lucky girl!
What a treat it was to meet up with the Barker family in Bonney Lake and photograph their sweet Amelia! Just a day after her official one year birthday, we shot some adorable pictures of her nestled in the beautiful Tehaleh neighborhood. After getting to know Megan and her husband Kenton through our life group at church, I was so excited when Megan asked me to do these photos for them! Their family has been wonderful to get to know and I'm so glad to call them friends! They have such sweet girls too and they looked so cute in their new dresses and hair bows. Megan completed the pictures with her pretty coral pink dress and matching flower garland in her hair! I'm really enjoying these one year old shoots and am excited to do more in the future. Here are some of my favorites below!
I'm baaaack! Maternity leave has been wonderful with my daughter and I'm loving being her mommy, but I'm finally back in the saddle (or more precisely, behind the camera)! It's been a big change to move from the Bay Area California up to Bonney Lake, Washington and then another big change becoming a parent. I thought this was going to be all too overwhelming, but God has been a faithful provider! The biggest thing I was leaving behind in California was my community of dear friends. It hasn't been easy to be away from them, especially since none of them have even met my daughter yet, but this move has also been a testament to how God carries me every. single. day! He knew what I needed when I got here and has been more than gracious to pave the way for me to meet new friends!
After having my baby girl, I knew I wanted to get involved in mom groups to meet new people in the same stage of life as me. It couldn't have been more perfect to find a church not far from us in Sumner that had exactly that: a mom group that welcomed me with open arms! That's where I met sweet Sarah and her adorable kids! It's been so fun getting to know her over the past couple months and seeing her little boy grow. Now, with his one year birthday in just a few days, it was perfect timing for me to start shooting again. We set up this mini shoot in the beautiful community of Tehaleh. Luckily, the weather was just perfect and we caught some of that pretty golden light that I love! I was so happy during this shoot and it was a good reminder of how much I enjoy my job!
What a sweet family! Samantha and Nick were such a pleasure to work with and so photogenic. I think it helps that Samantha is a photographer herself! She knows what looks good in front of the camera ;-) And their darling baby girl stole the show. She had the cutest little boho outfit on, complete with little gold moccasins and headband. I just love how her wispy hair has grown into a tiny mohawk! Too cute! Even with just a mini session, I think we got a good variety in and lucked out with some sunshine on the coast.
It's that time of the year again! Family photo sessions are all the rage right now to get that perfect photo for the annual holiday card. I was happy to start the season off with one of my favorite families...the Browns! It's been so awesome to photograph them from engagement shoot to wedding and now to annual family photos with their sweet baby girl, Emma. With her 2nd birthday around the corner, she was all smiles! Quite the improvement from last year. I even got multiple hugs at the end of the shoot as we said good bye...d'aww! We really had fun during our shoot. It was natural, carefree and nothing felt forced, which are always the best of shoots. I sure hope we can keep these up as the years go on. Thanks Monica & Brian for trusting me with so many special memories in your life!
What a bundle of joy! Zoey was a doll and so peaceful throughout the shoot. She slept soundly through the beginning and even when she did wake, she still was so easy. Just a mid-shoot feeding and she was calm as can be. Zoey was comfy in mom or dad's arms. Christina and Aaron were so lovely to work with as well! Lack of sleep didn't phase them. They were ready and willing to cuddle and kiss baby Zoey and just soak up the joy of finally having their baby in their arms. Really happy for this growing family and I wish them the best of luck as their daughter grows!
I love that so many of my dear friends had babies this year and I had the privilege of documenting these precious babes in their first days of life! To round out the year of newborns, my best friend Amanda brought a second baby boy into the world! Needless to say I couldn’t be happier for her and her new family of four. She’s in pure mom heaven. Every time I’ve seen her since Jason was born, I can just tell this is where she wants to be: home with her two precious boys. I think she was meant for motherhood, no doubt. I’ve already witnessed how amazing she has been with her first son, Noah, and how he has turned into the sweetest three-year-old I know!! He is obsessed with his new baby brother and can’t stop kissing, hugging and holding him. It was really special to see the bond he already has with Jason during our shoot. He just wanted to be near him the whole time! Of course we had to get some photos of just the two of them together to capture that brotherly love. We had a whole variety of shots for this at home session, including a nod to Noah's newborn session when we put him in a baseball bat! This time Jason got a football shot, just for daddy! I’m hoping 2017 will bring in some more opportunities for newborn photo sessions because it’s been lots of fun!
I love how engagement sessions have become a thing in modern wedding photography! I for one love them, sometimes even more than the wedding day, haha! Mainly because it's relaxed, it's fun and there's lots of time to get to know my couple's better. I'd say it's one of the best ways for me to bond with all of my clients! For me, that relationship is very important and I find this extra time shooting with my couples has been so helpful in developing a friendship and trust that lasts past the wedding day.
All that to say I'm very happy Kathryn and Patrick decided to do an "engagement" shoot with me, because really it wasn't an engagement shoot since they're already married! These sweethearts tied the knot earlier this year actually, but kept it very small. Still wanting the big celebration with all their friends and family, they opted to throw a full on party, complete with vow renewals this coming June! This time around, they get to have their brand new baby girl by their side when they say "I do" number two. So for our shoot at Henry Cowell Redwoods, we did a little mixture of romantic shots and of course some family photos. It worked out just in time for Christmas too. Hopefully they can use a few for holiday cards this year! I had such a wonderful time with them all on our shoot. It's always so sweet to see a couple who is bursting at the seems with love for each other that all they can do is smile, laugh and kiss! Kathryn and Patrick were so darling together and I'm really excited I get to be a part of a very special day for them in 2017!
Wow, it's been a busy past month. I can't believe it's already December! After a wonderful family vacation and a mission trip out of the country, I'm getting back into the swing of things! My first shoot back was with the lovely Brown family at Shinn Historical Park. I couldn't have been more excited to see them! The last time I saw Monica and Brian, they had just said "I do" and were dancing the rest of the night away. Fast forward two years and they have an adorable baby girl who just turned one and their loyal pup Duke. Time really does fly! I can't say enough how special it is for me to have clients who have trusted me not only with their wedding day, but also with capturing special family memories as the years go on. Really, what an honor!
Having just met their daughter, I think she was being a little shy with me, but nevertheless we were determined to get some smiles out of her! She of course was cute as can be. It was pretty funny, being a one-year-old, naturally anything and everything is a toy. So for the majority of the shoot, she was so fascinated with the rocks on the ground, it held her attention even more than Elmo videos! But I'm a strong believer that sometimes the best photos are simply the candid action shots and the in between moments when the kids don't know you're still shooting! Overall, it was a successful shoot. It was so great to catch up and provide Monica and Brian with more memorable photos to add to their collection!
What a lovely day for fall mini sessions! It was definitely a hot day, but once I found a patch of shade beneath the beautiful oak trees out at Testarossa Winery, I was set! I started the day pretty early to fit in as many sessions as possible. Admittedly, at first I was a tiny bit worried it would be too bright since I'm a sucker for golden hour shots, but once things got going, I was more than happy with the lighting. Some shade does wonders! Wendy and Kevin came all the way down from South San Francisco with their adorable baby girl for their first set of family photos! I was super flattered they made the trip down and was pleasantly surprised Hailey was calm as can be. She looked straight at the camera right off the bat and I knew this session was going to be a breeze! For only 3 months old, Hailey did fantastic. It was the perfect amount of time for baby girl and I think the shoot was a success! Stay tuned for some more photos from other mini sessions that day ;-)
If you're looking to get updated photos for that holiday card this year, email me for more information on a mini session this October 9th! Still booking spots :-)
One of the best parts of my job is getting to witness and document the happiest moments in people's lives! When I stop and think about how amazing that is, I can only say that that's a true blessing! Running a business is tough, but capturing memories for people to last them years to come is absolutely worth it. For this couple, I've been especially lucky to not only photograph their gorgeous wedding day, but just last week I got to meet their beautiful baby girl, Kinsley! The shoot flowed perfectly and Kinsley was so cooperative. She slept, she posed, she stared at the camera...everything we needed! It's always so heartwarming to see brand new parents look at their baby in their arms. Robin and Matt were nothing short of in-love with Kinsley and I just know they are going to be wonderful parents! Best of luck in the early months you two. Can't wait to see you all again for another family shoot!
This has been such an exciting year for so many of my close friends! Between engagements and new babies, it's been such a treat to photograph these special moments for them! Last December Shanay and Andrew they told us the news that they'd be having a baby this year and of course we were incredibly happy for them. Fast forward a few months and they are just a few weeks away from welcoming a baby boy into their lives! To commemorate this beautiful time, we headed out to Four Mile Beach in Santa Cruz for some sweet maternity photos. It went from really hot in San Jose, to pretty cold and windy on the shore. Luckily Andrew and Shanay were good sports about it all and we just had to laugh off the wind blown hair and the chilly temp! It's always a good time shooting with friends, no matter the circumstances. I can't wait to meet their little one and see these two loving people become parents. It will be such a joy! <3
