What a sweet family! Samantha and Nick were such a pleasure to work with and so photogenic. I think it helps that Samantha is a photographer herself! She knows what looks good in front of the camera ;-) And their darling baby girl stole the show. She had the cutest little boho outfit on, complete with little gold moccasins and headband. I just love how her wispy hair has grown into a tiny mohawk! Too cute! Even with just a mini session, I think we got a good variety in and lucked out with some sunshine on the coast.

Picchetti Open Preserve just has a way of never disappointing me! Granted, you do have to get the timing of the light just right because the "sunset" is really just the sun going behind the hills nearly an hour before actual sunset! For Kristine and Lance's engagement shoot, I think we nailed it with the timing. I also think they nailed it with the posing! Smiles, cuddles and lots of hugs throughout the shoot always make for sweet, sentimental photos. This Hawaiian couple, though currently residing in California, are naturally having a destination wedding in none other than their home island, Oahu. Bummed I won't be shooting their gorgeous wedding, but excited I got to work with them during this special season in their lives. Wishing you both nothing but the best!!
What a bundle of joy! Zoey was a doll and so peaceful throughout the shoot. She slept soundly through the beginning and even when she did wake, she still was so easy. Just a mid-shoot feeding and she was calm as can be. Zoey was comfy in mom or dad's arms. Christina and Aaron were so lovely to work with as well! Lack of sleep didn't phase them. They were ready and willing to cuddle and kiss baby Zoey and just soak up the joy of finally having their baby in their arms. Really happy for this growing family and I wish them the best of luck as their daughter grows!
What a great evening with Joanna and Ljay! We had a session full of laughter and lots of variety I'd say. We started off the shoot in downtown Willow Glen in San Jose. Joanna picked out a few favorite spots including this giant mural wall off Lincoln and an urban brick wall just down the street. Then we switched it up with a trip over to Alviso Marina County Park, which is such a unique place! It has these walkways with cool door frames that look like the shape of a house and the paths lead to the awesome salt ponds. I swear, we walked over to the salt ponds and felt like we were in a whole new location. With the way the sunset hit them, it almost looked like snow melting into the water. Really cool spot to check out if you've never been there! Joanna and Ljay are such a fun-loving couple, full of energy and smiles. I'm really looking forward to their Nestldown wedding in September! I know it'll be a magical day.
We couldn't have picked a clearer day for a shoot in San Francisco! For anyone who knows SF well, you know there's always a risk of that fog rolling in, but our May session was crystal clear. And speaking of clear, apparently Friday shoots are a little less packed with other photographers! Every time I've done a shoot in the past at Sutro Baths, there has been a model or another couple or multiple couples all vying for a spot on that runway! This session we practically had the place to ourselves... almost! Nikki and Kenneth fell right into place. Everyone starts the sessions a little nervous yet they always nail it. All it takes is gazing into your future husband or wife's eyes and hopefully my camera drops out of view! I mean that's really all you need: a beautiful landscape and a couple in love and the rest comes through naturally. As always, looking forward to this lovely wedding at The Mountain Terrace this August!
It's always special when my couples decide to include their pets in their engagement shoot. But this adorable golden retriever isn't just a pet; he's the sweet pup Eugene gave to Alex when he proposed to her! So it was only fitting to have Buster along for the shoot! We began the evening over at Seabright State Beach in Santa Cruz. The sky was gray at first, but Alex and Eugene lit up the camera! They were both so fun-loving and kept the smiles and laughter coming. One of the best parts of my jobs is when I just get to laugh the whole way through with my clients. Some how it always turns out that way and it's such a treat! After our round of shots with Buster, we took a drive over to the beautiful Natural Bridges State Beach and that's when the magic of golden hour made its debut. Not gonna lie, I always get giddy when the sun settles in just right! It felt perfect. Alex and Eugene stayed playful, happy, and affectionate and I just kept snapping away. We ended the night on such a high note and I'm super excited to share my favorites with you! Stay tuned in October when these two say "i do" under the Redwoods of Sanborn Park!
I love that so many of my dear friends had babies this year and I had the privilege of documenting these precious babes in their first days of life! To round out the year of newborns, my best friend Amanda brought a second baby boy into the world! Needless to say I couldn’t be happier for her and her new family of four. She’s in pure mom heaven. Every time I’ve seen her since Jason was born, I can just tell this is where she wants to be: home with her two precious boys. I think she was meant for motherhood, no doubt. I’ve already witnessed how amazing she has been with her first son, Noah, and how he has turned into the sweetest three-year-old I know!! He is obsessed with his new baby brother and can’t stop kissing, hugging and holding him. It was really special to see the bond he already has with Jason during our shoot. He just wanted to be near him the whole time! Of course we had to get some photos of just the two of them together to capture that brotherly love. We had a whole variety of shots for this at home session, including a nod to Noah's newborn session when we put him in a baseball bat! This time Jason got a football shot, just for daddy! I’m hoping 2017 will bring in some more opportunities for newborn photo sessions because it’s been lots of fun!
Believe it or not, this beautiful fall foliage was still bursting with color this December! For this family and maternity shoot, we headed over to Holbrook Palmer Park over in Atherton and were pleasantly surprised to find a very nice backdrop of orange and red leaves for our session. Jenny had originally set up a family shoot, but with her due date quickly approaching, we couldn't help but couple the shoot with some maternity shots! She looked so pretty in her lace dress and studded heels, not to mention her son's adorable little outfit complete with blue moccasins! Everyone looked great and I think the shoot came together very nicely, especially considering the fact that we had foreboding rain clouds hovering over us the whole time. Despite a little mist, the rain held out for our 30 minute session which was just enough time to capture some sweet family photos!
I love how engagement sessions have become a thing in modern wedding photography! I for one love them, sometimes even more than the wedding day, haha! Mainly because it's relaxed, it's fun and there's lots of time to get to know my couple's better. I'd say it's one of the best ways for me to bond with all of my clients! For me, that relationship is very important and I find this extra time shooting with my couples has been so helpful in developing a friendship and trust that lasts past the wedding day.
All that to say I'm very happy Kathryn and Patrick decided to do an "engagement" shoot with me, because really it wasn't an engagement shoot since they're already married! These sweethearts tied the knot earlier this year actually, but kept it very small. Still wanting the big celebration with all their friends and family, they opted to throw a full on party, complete with vow renewals this coming June! This time around, they get to have their brand new baby girl by their side when they say "I do" number two. So for our shoot at Henry Cowell Redwoods, we did a little mixture of romantic shots and of course some family photos. It worked out just in time for Christmas too. Hopefully they can use a few for holiday cards this year! I had such a wonderful time with them all on our shoot. It's always so sweet to see a couple who is bursting at the seems with love for each other that all they can do is smile, laugh and kiss! Kathryn and Patrick were so darling together and I'm really excited I get to be a part of a very special day for them in 2017!
Wow, it's been a busy past month. I can't believe it's already December! After a wonderful family vacation and a mission trip out of the country, I'm getting back into the swing of things! My first shoot back was with the lovely Brown family at Shinn Historical Park. I couldn't have been more excited to see them! The last time I saw Monica and Brian, they had just said "I do" and were dancing the rest of the night away. Fast forward two years and they have an adorable baby girl who just turned one and their loyal pup Duke. Time really does fly! I can't say enough how special it is for me to have clients who have trusted me not only with their wedding day, but also with capturing special family memories as the years go on. Really, what an honor!
Having just met their daughter, I think she was being a little shy with me, but nevertheless we were determined to get some smiles out of her! She of course was cute as can be. It was pretty funny, being a one-year-old, naturally anything and everything is a toy. So for the majority of the shoot, she was so fascinated with the rocks on the ground, it held her attention even more than Elmo videos! But I'm a strong believer that sometimes the best photos are simply the candid action shots and the in between moments when the kids don't know you're still shooting! Overall, it was a successful shoot. It was so great to catch up and provide Monica and Brian with more memorable photos to add to their collection!
In another addition from my fall mini sessions this year, I'm showing off the adorable Amanda and Dan! I think most people hear fall sessions (be it mini or full shoots) and might immediately think it's only for families. Not true! I actually had a few shoots this year with couples and it was awesome. It's the perfect chance to get some updated pictures of you and your sweetheart for multiple reasons... new prints for your home, fresh profile pictures, feature photos for those holiday cards, or just because! Even with just 20 minutes, I think we got some really sweet photos from our quick session. Dan and Amanda seemed like naturals in front of the camera. Genuine smiles, stolen kisses and loving embraces were just a few of the things I caught in our shoot! So next time I hold mini sessions, don't hesitate to get in touch even if it's just you and your love!
What a lovely day for fall mini sessions! It was definitely a hot day, but once I found a patch of shade beneath the beautiful oak trees out at Testarossa Winery, I was set! I started the day pretty early to fit in as many sessions as possible. Admittedly, at first I was a tiny bit worried it would be too bright since I'm a sucker for golden hour shots, but once things got going, I was more than happy with the lighting. Some shade does wonders! Wendy and Kevin came all the way down from South San Francisco with their adorable baby girl for their first set of family photos! I was super flattered they made the trip down and was pleasantly surprised Hailey was calm as can be. She looked straight at the camera right off the bat and I knew this session was going to be a breeze! For only 3 months old, Hailey did fantastic. It was the perfect amount of time for baby girl and I think the shoot was a success! Stay tuned for some more photos from other mini sessions that day ;-)
It's been such a joy to witness so many close friends journey into parenthood this year. Not only have I been able to keep up with their pregnancies but I've been honored to document their maternity and then their brand new babies once they come into the world. You may recognize some familiar faces if you saw my recent maternity shoot back in August. I know Shanay has been ready for Lincoln for a long time, but baby boy had a plan of his own. After nearly two weeks waiting past the due date, he finally made his arrival! I was very excited to meet him and even more excited to capture these photos for the happy family. I'm looking forward to watching him grow and hope for many more family photos in the future!
What do you get when you combine vintage furniture, bow ties, cotton balls, and some dapper gentlemen? This shoot! :D I was beyond excited when Annaliza and Andrea, the boss ladies behind Seventh Heaven Vintage Rentals, reached out to me to photograph their latest #SHVintageCuratorVibes styled shoot! This "Dapper Darling" bachelor party inspiration shoot was one the most creative ways to show off their mid-century furniture and props. Everything you see can be rented through SHVR for your wedding, party or next shoot (men not included)! It was a great afternoon getting to play with different sets, various props and just have some fun in the process. Everyone involved did a fabulous job! I sure hope to do more of these types of shoots in the future!
From beginning to end, this was a beautiful day! Shooting at Regale Winery in Los Gatos was a dream. The garden area, the bridal suite, the view and that cute barn were all perfect! In fact, I think I found a new favorite venue :) Susan looked gorgeous in her Maggie Sottero dress and sexy Nina shoes complete with an ankle bow! I could have taken pictures of her all day long if I had the chance. But alas, there were many other things to photograph during the full-day celebration. From the bridal details, to the heartfelt vows to the hilarious choreographed father-daughter dance, I had lots of memorable moments to capture. Yet even after all the partying, there's still round two over in Scotland where Susan's parents are both from. At the end of their amazing European honeymoon, the happy newlyweds still have another wedding reception to attend across the pond! Can you say jealous?! All jokes aside, I'm very happy for Brett and Susan and wish them nothing but the best for their marriage! Thank you guys and your family for asking me to be a part of such a special day!
