The second installment of fall mini shoots is here today! I can't get enough of this hidden gem just outside of Alum Rock in San Jose. I wish this trail had a proper name, but maybe it's best I keep it as my own little secret :D It's the perfect spot for some fall foliage and has enough space to roam around to mix up the background. It was a great location for my session with the Hughes family! They were such a loving bunch with the sweetest little kids. Tanner was full of life and Allie has the brightest blue eyes! Loved our shoot and hope we can do another next year!

I just love fall. The colors, the brisk air, the excuse to wear boots and scarves! Now I have a new favorite thing to add to my list... fall mini sessions! This was my second year offering them to clients and it turned out to be a hit! It was such a great way to meet so many new families and their adorable little kids. Hopefully I'll be able to photograph these families for years to come! First in this week's series of mini sessions, I'm featuring Kate, Mike and Greyson: A fun-loving couple with their sweet little 2 year-old boy. Greyson was a bit of a tough shell to crack at first, but he sure did love when his daddy threw him up in the air! We got the timing down just right...throw him a couple times, laugh and giggle and then click! It's always funny how when I put my camera down, the real smiles always come out. Sometimes I get lucky when we call it a wrap, but then I keep taking shots on the way back to the car. I have my tricks ;-) Big thanks to Kate for setting up this shoot with me. Hope to do more with you guys in the new year!
If you know me at all, you know I love kids. Enough to have worked as a tutor for all ages of elementary school, as a preschool aide, and as a nanny for a family of three! I find my experience with young children has been more than helpful when it comes to photo shoots with little ones! I'm no guru, that's for sure, but I know how to let my guard down, have fun and downright be silly in order to get genuine smiles during my shoots. It's not always easy, especially if the kiddos are fussy or really have no desire to take pictures whatsoever, but it's fulfilling when I finally get those true moments when they crack a smile and open up to the camera for me. The best moments are the giggles, the kisses for mommy or daddy and when they are truly just having a good time!
What an exciting year for the Blaylock family...two graduations in one year! Bryan, a high school school senior, and Annie in her final year at San Jose State University. This brother and sister duo was so fun to shoot with and had me laughing the whole way through. Great, down-to-earth people with a bright future ahead of them. I wish them the best of luck in the years ahead!
I am so excited to share this engagement session with everyone! As you could probably tell from my lack of blog posts, I've been on a bit of a hiatus with shoots. But I'm back at it and ready for another wonderful year of love and laughter! I couldn't have asked for a better way to start off the new year than with Katie and Ben. Katie had the brilliant idea to do the shoot at her parents' property. You couldn't tell from the pictures that this darling ranch is just tucked away right off the road in the foothills of east San Jose. It's a gorgeous piece of land, complete with a barn, tractors, chickens and even donkeys! A country girl at heart, Katie grew up raising and riding horses so it was only natural for them to incorporate that ranch feel into the engagement session. Ben brought out his banjo too for the ultimate folk feel! My favorite part of the shoot though was when we trekked down to the yellow mustard field and literally put a leather chair from the living room out in the flowers. It made for some fun photos! The ultimate cherry on top was having my husband shoot along side me. He's still a photographer in training, but he's got the eye and shot some great photos. Detail shots below compliment of Nick :-) Thank you to Katie and Ben for such a great time!
The holidays are finally upon us and so are family holiday photos! The Root family invited me to their house nestled in the foothills of San Jose, near Alum Rock Park. They live in a beautiful neighborhood, filled with oak trees and fallen leaves and their neighbor was kind enough to let us shoot in their big yard with a fun tree swing! There's a lot of love in this family and I'm thankful for the opportunity to shoot with them. Looking forward to more photo sessions in the future!
"I don't even know where to begin!" That's pretty much how I felt while trying to prepare for this bridal fair! This my second time having a booth at a bridal show and my first time exhibiting with the Great Bridal Expo. Last year, I pulled something together within 3 days because I didn't even know I was going to sign up until the LAST minute. This year on the other hand, I knew well in advance I was going to this show and I got my butt in gear months before. I almost don't know which was worse: the last minute booth or the months of planning ahead! I stressed out majorly for both of them, but one was much more short-lived than the other. :P In the end, I'm so happy with how everything came together! I owe a huge thank you my sister Michelle Blackshire, who not only designed my handouts and price lists (not to mention all my other marketing materials), but who actually came out to support me and talk with passing brides and grooms! My dad was such a great help in the morning as well with unloading and carrying everything up and doing a much-needed Starbucks run for me! Thank you to Lauren Gallucci for the awesome pieces from Sweet Lauren Rentals. The booth really came together with the vintage dresser, the lacy bistro set and birch wood stand! Last but certainly not least, THANK YOU to my wonderful husband Nick for all the help before, during and after. You have always been my biggest fan, greatest cheerleader and such an encouragement to me throughout my whole photography career. Thank you for all your hard work at the booth and for being my stress relief through all the months leading up to the fair when I thought I was gonna lose it!
The show was packed with people and I got to talk to many, many brides. It was a great afternoon and I loved meeting so many new people. I'm looking forward to 2015 and all the weddings ahead. Now let's just pray all these efforts pay off! :D
I think flowers can make anything pretty. I reused some ideas from my own wedding this year and incorporated them into my booth.
Crate and wood pale: Some fun finds at Marshall's! Vintage camera from a good ol' garage sale.
I upcycled an old frame by using it as a business card display.
All I had to do was paint it white, then glue twine to the back so I could clothespin my business cards to it!
Gotta have an enticing treat to lure those people in!
Michelle made the cutest Wedding Planner for me to pass out to everyone. Now all the brides have a 1 year planner with all the important "to-dos" to check off as the months count down :)
October has nearly come and gone and I'm still catching my breath! It's been a busy month, but so good at the same time! I've been able to shoot mini sessions, engagements and weddings, all in just these past few weeks! I've gotten a bit behind on blogging (I admit!) but it just means I have so many more fun blog posts around the corner with fresh pictures to show you soon :-) For sneak peaks and more up-to-date news, please Like my Facebook page by visiting the link on the right! To start off the month, I had the pleasure of shooting Brian and Monica's lovely wedding at Cinnabar Golf Club with my dear friend Danielle, from Danielle Gillett Photography. Often times I go into weddings not knowing what to expect from the day because really, every wedding is different and you can never quite predict what each one will hold. I've had my fair share of stressful weddings, but this one ran so smoothly and peacefully that I actually had a chance to breathe and truly enjoy myself! I originally met Monica and Brian last year at a wedding fair and I knew we clicked right away. They are nothing but friendly and easy going and it was a joy to work with them. I really hope to do many more shoots in the future with them and wish them many blessings in their new marriage!
I love shooting engagement sessions, especially when the couple is up for anything! Weddings are usually pretty hectic and I often feel rushed in order to stick to a timeline. Engagement shoots, on the other hand, have so much more wiggle room and allow me much more creative freedom...which I love! Vickie and Jason were such great models and you could tell their chemistry and laughter on camera was nothing but natural. We walked all around downtown San Jose, choosing the coolest buildings and walls to use as our backdrop. From the classic columns of the Superior Court on First Street to the linear architecture of San Jose's City Hall, we got a good variety of spots to complete the shoot. I'd say we had our share of fun! I'm very excited to shoot their wedding in November!
My first wedding of the season couldn't have been with a more lovely couple. Kira and Steven have been such wonderful clients from the moment I met them and I had been anticipating their wedding for months. Not only are they stunning in front of the camera, but the Guglielmo Winery venue was beautiful as well. It was my first time shooting there, which is always fun because I love challenging myself and working with new scenery. In addition, I had the pleasure of working with Jennifer Mihalyi as my assistant photographer and she did such a great job! She captured some amazing detail shots of all the adorable decor they had spread out on the tables and the beautiful ceremony set up with candles, flowers, barrels and vintage shutters. It all came together so nicely and I had a lovely time capturing it all. Hope y'all enjoy the pictures!
Darling baby Reese was only 14 days old and already had an agenda of her own! She wasn't a big fan of getting her picture taken, being naked or falling asleep, but she was still precious as can be! Nevertheless, with the help of her parents, we got some adorable shots of her intermittently snoozing away! With careful balance and gentle touch, we swapped props in and out and changed up the set a bit to add variety. Between the cute baby beanies and the snuggly stuffed animals, we got some peaceful shots of little Reese at her best. Enjoy the photos!
As promised, here's the second round of engagement photos I shot with Kira and Steven. I had just as much fun, if not more, on this shoot as the last one. They are just so easy to photograph together and the second time around they knew exactly what to do! We traveled around downtown San Jose and visited various spots around town that stood out to them or had a special meaning. Both were graduates from San Jose State, so it was important we paid a visit to their alma mater! Other cool locations included city hall, the old US post office across from St. James Park and the awesome brick alley way near their first apartment together. This was one of my favorite shoots from 2013!
I can't believe I've never photographed at Vasona Park in Los Gatos before! It's like a photographer's feeding ground. Photographers were all over the place, but I can see why! It's a beautiful location with lots of nooks and crannies to shoot in. Janeen and Frank were super sweet together and we had a great time roaming around the park. I'm excited to shoot their wedding in June!
What a pleasure it was to do this impromptu portrait shoot for Maricella just in time for her high school graduation. We cleverly did the shoot at the Evergreen Valley College campus, which turns out to be the school Maricella wants to go to in the fall! She was a great model and made the shoot easy and effortless. She came ready with four complete changes of clothing (quite cute I might add!) and just the right attitude and smile. Her stepmom Lindsey was a treat to work with as well and I'm so glad I had the chance to meet them both. I wish Maricella the best of luck with her future and hope she has a fabulous graduation celebration!
