What an exciting time to be a senior! I remember when I graduated from San Jose State way back in 2010, I was more than ready to be done with school and move on to the "real world"! The beautiful Anai, a psychology major, is feeling all those same feelings right now as she moves on from college with a Bachelor's degree in tow and on to bigger things for her future!Read More

The second installment of fall mini shoots is here today! I can't get enough of this hidden gem just outside of Alum Rock in San Jose. I wish this trail had a proper name, but maybe it's best I keep it as my own little secret :D It's the perfect spot for some fall foliage and has enough space to roam around to mix up the background. It was a great location for my session with the Hughes family! They were such a loving bunch with the sweetest little kids. Tanner was full of life and Allie has the brightest blue eyes! Loved our shoot and hope we can do another next year!
I just love fall. The colors, the brisk air, the excuse to wear boots and scarves! Now I have a new favorite thing to add to my list... fall mini sessions! This was my second year offering them to clients and it turned out to be a hit! It was such a great way to meet so many new families and their adorable little kids. Hopefully I'll be able to photograph these families for years to come! First in this week's series of mini sessions, I'm featuring Kate, Mike and Greyson: A fun-loving couple with their sweet little 2 year-old boy. Greyson was a bit of a tough shell to crack at first, but he sure did love when his daddy threw him up in the air! We got the timing down just right...throw him a couple times, laugh and giggle and then click! It's always funny how when I put my camera down, the real smiles always come out. Sometimes I get lucky when we call it a wrap, but then I keep taking shots on the way back to the car. I have my tricks ;-) Big thanks to Kate for setting up this shoot with me. Hope to do more with you guys in the new year!
Can I just say, Katie and Cam are adorable! I think it's so funny that they said they are normally awkward in front of a camera and not very photogenic. Ha! First of all, they are such a good looking couple no matter the face they were making they made it look good ;-) But really what it comes down to is that they are so in love, every photo shows that authenticity and adoration for each other. That's all I care about anyway...showing off their love in a snapshot! Between their giggles and embraces, I think we got some great photos from the shoot. Rancho San Antonio was the perfect spot for a fall engagement and we got there at the perfect time of day before our light hid behind the hills. And you all know I'm a sucker for some epic golden light! I'm really excited for Katie and Cam and am so happy they asked me to be even just a small part of this special time in their lives!
If you know me at all, you know I love kids. Enough to have worked as a tutor for all ages of elementary school, as a preschool aide, and as a nanny for a family of three! I find my experience with young children has been more than helpful when it comes to photo shoots with little ones! I'm no guru, that's for sure, but I know how to let my guard down, have fun and downright be silly in order to get genuine smiles during my shoots. It's not always easy, especially if the kiddos are fussy or really have no desire to take pictures whatsoever, but it's fulfilling when I finally get those true moments when they crack a smile and open up to the camera for me. The best moments are the giggles, the kisses for mommy or daddy and when they are truly just having a good time!
The first round of mini sessions went off without a hitch! Had a great time with the families shooting up at Spring Valley Pond in Milpitas, CA. I've shot there many times before and it's usually pretty open and empty, which is perfect for photo shoots. I guess I missed the memo that there were multiple parties and games planned for that very spot on the same day! Luckily, it just forced me to find a new area of the park that I hadn't really explored before and it worked out beautifully. Tara, her husband and two little kids were wonderful to work with. I don't think I've ever done a shoot with such patient kids! It does help that it was only 30 minutes worth of shooting...just the right amount of time for youngin's to pose and then play!
What an exciting year for the Blaylock family...two graduations in one year! Bryan, a high school school senior, and Annie in her final year at San Jose State University. This brother and sister duo was so fun to shoot with and had me laughing the whole way through. Great, down-to-earth people with a bright future ahead of them. I wish them the best of luck in the years ahead!
The holidays are finally upon us and so are family holiday photos! The Root family invited me to their house nestled in the foothills of San Jose, near Alum Rock Park. They live in a beautiful neighborhood, filled with oak trees and fallen leaves and their neighbor was kind enough to let us shoot in their big yard with a fun tree swing! There's a lot of love in this family and I'm thankful for the opportunity to shoot with them. Looking forward to more photo sessions in the future!
What a TREAT it was to shoot with this lovely family! For starters, they are adorable! The little boys, one just under 2 years old and the other 5, were very well behaved and very photogenic. Their smiles are just precious! Nate and Diane were nothing but kind and friendly parents, just yearning for a full family photo. I'm glad I could help them out ;-) I had a great time with them all and could've kept on shooting till the sun went down! The spot was perfect for a fall shoot. No real name, just a trail off of Penitencia Creek Road just outside of Alum Rock Park in San Jose. A hidden gem, if you will. Enjoy the smiles below and stay tuned for another blog post soon. Next up: Fall Engagement Shoot at Vasona Lake Park!
October has nearly come and gone and I'm still catching my breath! It's been a busy month, but so good at the same time! I've been able to shoot mini sessions, engagements and weddings, all in just these past few weeks! I've gotten a bit behind on blogging (I admit!) but it just means I have so many more fun blog posts around the corner with fresh pictures to show you soon :-) For sneak peaks and more up-to-date news, please Like my Facebook page by visiting the link on the right! To start off the month, I had the pleasure of shooting Brian and Monica's lovely wedding at Cinnabar Golf Club with my dear friend Danielle, from Danielle Gillett Photography. Often times I go into weddings not knowing what to expect from the day because really, every wedding is different and you can never quite predict what each one will hold. I've had my fair share of stressful weddings, but this one ran so smoothly and peacefully that I actually had a chance to breathe and truly enjoy myself! I originally met Monica and Brian last year at a wedding fair and I knew we clicked right away. They are nothing but friendly and easy going and it was a joy to work with them. I really hope to do many more shoots in the future with them and wish them many blessings in their new marriage!
Honestly, I can't get enough of this kid! Since I have no children of my own yet, nannying with the same family for two years is the closest I've come to feeling like a mother. It's been such a huge pleasure to watch these kids grow into little people! Camden, the youngest, was only 2 months old when I began working with the family and now he is a walking, talking 2 year-old boy. I have so much fun playing with Camden and just watching him discover the little things in life. So I decided that's just what I'd do for this shoot...watch him be him and snap photos along the way. Backyard shoots prove to be the most comfortable for the kids because they are at home in their element. As soon as I felt like he was distracted by the camera or getting shy, I put it down and just joined in on the fun until I got those genuine expressions again. He was such a good little boy for me on this shoot and I love the true sense of wonderment and smiles I got from him. Can't wait to see what he looks like by this time next year!
For anyone who follows my photography blog, you might recognize Pichetti Winery as one of my favorite places to shoot. It's just such a sweet spot and it's got beautiful scenery. Granted, you can't tell from the photos, but it's definitely a work-out to go hiking from each spot to the next! In the end, I think it's worth it and the results are worth the sweat! Monica and Brian were such troopers and I had a lovely time chatting and getting to know more about their lives. Looking forward to shooting their wedding in October at the Cinnabar Hills Golf Club in San Jose. I imagine it's gonna be a fun party! Thanks for great shoot you two!
What a wonderful season it has been. Not only have I been able to celebrate my sister's wedding and all the fun events that came along with it, but I get to enjoy a wedding and all the festivities of my own! I feel so amazingly blessed to have the friends and family that I do and also, I couldn't ask God for a better fiancé! It was a "Stock the Kitchen" bridal shower and it was just perfect. My sister (yes the same one that just got married 3 weeks prior!) actually had the energy, the creativity, the organization and somehow found the time to pull this lovely shower together! I was blown away at her attention to detail and all the fun things she personally designed, including a brilliant custom crossword puzzle and advice cards on how to keep the marriage "sweet." My mom and bridesmaids all had a part in helping pull this together and I was just so grateful. Big shout out and thank you to my beautiful friend Lupe who helped take all the pictures when I couldn't. You can tell how much I enjoyed the party by the huge smile on my face in every picture! All the gifts people brought astounded me and made me feel beyond special. Let's just say our kitchen is definitely WELL stocked now! I can't thank you all enough for being by my side through this crazy/exciting time and I know I couldn't do it without you ladies! THE DETAILS THE DESIGNS THE GIFTS
Future mother-in-law (far left) and grandma!
My mom and sisters!
I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this family! Lisa, the lovely mother of two, is also my awesome and motivating Bible Study leader. This shoot was nothing but fun and great smiles from everyone...including their happy pup, Jessie. What I loved about this session was their adventurous side; climbing tress, piggy back rides and the rambunctious dog running around through the creek and grass. It was a beautiful day and I'm so glad I had the chance to do this shoot with them. I can tell they are a very loving and happy family, on and off camera ;-)
Darling baby Reese was only 14 days old and already had an agenda of her own! She wasn't a big fan of getting her picture taken, being naked or falling asleep, but she was still precious as can be! Nevertheless, with the help of her parents, we got some adorable shots of her intermittently snoozing away! With careful balance and gentle touch, we swapped props in and out and changed up the set a bit to add variety. Between the cute baby beanies and the snuggly stuffed animals, we got some peaceful shots of little Reese at her best. Enjoy the photos!
As promised, here's the second round of engagement photos I shot with Kira and Steven. I had just as much fun, if not more, on this shoot as the last one. They are just so easy to photograph together and the second time around they knew exactly what to do! We traveled around downtown San Jose and visited various spots around town that stood out to them or had a special meaning. Both were graduates from San Jose State, so it was important we paid a visit to their alma mater! Other cool locations included city hall, the old US post office across from St. James Park and the awesome brick alley way near their first apartment together. This was one of my favorite shoots from 2013!
What an entertaining family photo session! Mary Ann and all her cousins were far from camera shy and brought a lot of spunk to what could have been a sleepy-eyed morning. We started in the Japanese Tea Gardens in Golden Gate Park, where the beautiful colors of the trees and sunlight gave a soft glow to the photos. Next we moved on to the steps outside the de Young Museum and that's where things got really interesting! From a human pyramid to crazy faces to planking on the steps, we definitely had our share of laughs! Big thank you to Nick Tresko as well for coming along and helping out on the shoot. Have a happy New Year everyone! Here's to a successful, creative and exciting 2014!
I can't believe I've never photographed at Vasona Park in Los Gatos before! It's like a photographer's feeding ground. Photographers were all over the place, but I can see why! It's a beautiful location with lots of nooks and crannies to shoot in. Janeen and Frank were super sweet together and we had a great time roaming around the park. I'm excited to shoot their wedding in June!
If anyone has been following my blog, you may remember the maternity shoot I posted a couple months ago with Amanda. Well, with every successful pregnancy, a healthy baby comes at the end! Amanda and her husband Julio are now the lucky parents of a beautiful baby boy, Noah. As I had mentioned before, I've known Amanda my whole life so we're basically sisters, which means I'm practically a new auntie! Noah is a darling baby and I had so much fun on this shoot, admiring his tiny toes and mini fingers :-) They both are very blessed and I'm so excited for them and what they have in store for their blossoming family.
Three generations: Grandma, mom and baby!
Sporting his mom and dad's love of baseball ;-)
Already dressing up in daddy's tie!
What a treat it was to photograph newborn baby Lianna. At less than two weeks old, she was a surprisingly easy subject! She slept nearly the whole shoot, which allowed us to dress her up and play with props! Her two older brothers got to join us too with loving kisses and helpful hands. I'm hoping this leads to more newborn photo shoots...spread the word!
