When Brenda told me she wanted to have a romantic beach setting for her engagement shoot, I immediately was game! With the weather we've been having, it's been hit or miss with the sunshine so I definitely had my worries approaching the shoot.Read More

I'm so excited to finally share this blog post from this awesome high school senior shoot I did this summer! Natalie and her parents had a trip planned from Minnesota to visit family in the Bay Area and thought, what a perfect opportunity to take senior portraits with some gorgeous California scenery! Natalie's mom scoured the good ol' Internet for photographers out here and to my surprise, chose me for the portrait session :-D Luckily I had availability the week they came to town and we choose the beautiful 4 Mile Beach in Santa Cruz as our location. The day of the shoot I was a little worried the coastal fog would drown out all our sun, but just in time for the shoot it peaked it's golden rays through the sky and lit up Natalie perfectly. She was an absolute natural in front of the camera; it was hard to stop shooting! Her blue eyes and fun-loving spirit made my job so easy. It was editing all the photos down to a reasonable amount that was the hard part! I had such a fun time and hope to do more senior sessions in the future. Thanks for the great shoot and good luck in your last year of high school Natalie!
For the past 3 years, I've lived somewhat of a double life. Nanny by day, photographer by golden hour! The family I have nannied for has been one of the biggest blessings of my life. I can't say enough good things about them, really! Not only have they been wonderful employers, but have become amazing friends and a second family to me. They have been supportive of my photography from day one and I am so thankful for their encouragement as my business has grown. Recently, the children's grandma asked me to do a shoot of all the grandkids during their family reunion beach trip at Pajaro Dunes. I was more than happy to make the trip over to Watsonville and just play with everyone! The shoot began with all the formal, posed shots, but I knew I'd get the best stuff when it was just candid, beach fun. So after all the adults had their fill of photos and the kids just wanted to get their suits on and play in the water, I took my camera, plunked down in the sand and just shot away!
Have camera, will travel. As most people know, my main gig is shooting weddings and engagements, but I love variety and I jump on any opportunity to shoot portraits. That's why I was so flattered that my dear friend Pam asked me to take her daughter's high school senior portraits! Trying to avoid the stiff in-studio photos, Chloe wanted something more suited to her style for her senior pictures. She wanted a beach backdrop mixed with some more fun, urban elements so naturally we met up in Santa Cruz and had a little adventure of our own! We originally wanted to shoot at the Boardwalk, but with the shoot coinciding with spring break and awesome weather, the beach was of course packed! I made a quick decision to shoot further down the coast at Seabright State Beach, which was far less crowded and had some great spots to shoot. Chloe started out shy and timid, but little did she know she lit up the camera from the first shot. She's a young beauty with a great smile and a sweet heart. We shot half the session at the beach and then wanting to get more colorful and textured backdrops, we jumped in the car and just drove till we saw a fun spot! Luckily we had her mom Pam to chauffeur us around town, which made it super convenient. We saw a mural and starting shooting...we saw a bridge and jumped out....we saw the Boardwalk, and yes, we pulled over and got some of those pictures after all! It was a great shoot and I really enjoyed myself, as I hope Chloe did too. She's a smart girl with a good sense of humor and I know she's got a great future ahead of her after high school! Happy graduation to the class of 2015!
What a beautiful day it was in Felton for Hope and Jake's engagement session! God definitely orchestrated a lovely set for the shoot...blue skies, golden light filtering through the tall trees and the perfect temperature. I love how Hope and Jake knew right away that they wanted to do the session somewhere with Redwoods and what better place than in the Santa Cruz mountains! They brought their adorable doggies along as well, Blue and Bunny. Sweet pups with lots of energy, but maybe a little too much to sit still for pictures! Luckily we got a few photos to show they made an appearance. ;-) Commemorating their love for craft beer, the happy couple brought their own brewed batch of "Pliny the Elder" complete with a custom label that Hope designed herself! I love when brides are crafty and creative. I'm so excited to shoot their wedding in September and I can't wait to see what the wedding details hold! Happy 3 years of dating you two. May you have many, many more years ahead!
Baby bumps, bellies, and the expectations of a new life! Pregnancy is such a fascinating and beautiful thing to me. I have yet to experience it, but I admire each and every woman who has endured it and brought a life into the world! I had the honor of photographing Jennifer and her family as they fast approached the birth of their second child. Jennifer gave birth only 3 1/2 weeks after this shoot and she was such a trooper! We trekked down to 4 Mile Beach in Santa Cruz, just off highway 1 and we caught some gorgeous light. Their adorable 2-year old daughter Darla was being camera shy, but I was able to snap some moments of her precious smile and curiosity with the sand. Baby Dakota is growing fast and strong now. I even got to meet the little one last week! From the belly to a baby in the big world--it's just amazing how life forms.
I love shooting over in the Santa Cruz area. There's just something so beautiful, refreshing and serene about being over near the coast. Aptos, California is home to a handful of gorgeous venues and I was happy to add a new location to my photos! Brianna and Jeff, Santa Cruz locals themselves, picked the perfect date in May to get married at the Seascape Golf Club. The weather was great, the sun was shining bright and judging by the parking lot of cars on highway 17, plenty of other people thought it was the perfect day to head over the hill for a beach day! The wedding was filled with so much love and laughter, as all weddings should. Brianna and Jeff were just so adorable together and Jeff's son was always close at hand soaking in the love as well. The wedding marked the start of not only a marriage, but a beautiful family. I'm so happy for you guys and I was honored to be a part of that special day. Big thanks to Jennifer Mihalyi who helped capture the full day and add in all the extra details!
I had such a fun time traveling out to the coast to photograph this engagement shoot in Watsonville! Becky has been a long time family friend and I was honored that she wanted me to be her wedding photographer. In fact, her wedding is just around the corner! Looking forward to shooting it on June 14th at Roaring Camp Railroads in Felton, CA. Mitchell and Becky were such good sports trekking around the property to find the best spots and ideal lighting, not to mention avoiding the poison oak! We got some beautiful shots on the beach as well and I'm so excited to share them with you. Check back soon for their wedding pictures!
