What a sweet family! Samantha and Nick were such a pleasure to work with and so photogenic. I think it helps that Samantha is a photographer herself! She knows what looks good in front of the camera ;-) And their darling baby girl stole the show. She had the cutest little boho outfit on, complete with little gold moccasins and headband. I just love how her wispy hair has grown into a tiny mohawk! Too cute! Even with just a mini session, I think we got a good variety in and lucked out with some sunshine on the coast.

Believe it or not, this beautiful fall foliage was still bursting with color this December! For this family and maternity shoot, we headed over to Holbrook Palmer Park over in Atherton and were pleasantly surprised to find a very nice backdrop of orange and red leaves for our session. Jenny had originally set up a family shoot, but with her due date quickly approaching, we couldn't help but couple the shoot with some maternity shots! She looked so pretty in her lace dress and studded heels, not to mention her son's adorable little outfit complete with blue moccasins! Everyone looked great and I think the shoot came together very nicely, especially considering the fact that we had foreboding rain clouds hovering over us the whole time. Despite a little mist, the rain held out for our 30 minute session which was just enough time to capture some sweet family photos!
Wow, it's been a busy past month. I can't believe it's already December! After a wonderful family vacation and a mission trip out of the country, I'm getting back into the swing of things! My first shoot back was with the lovely Brown family at Shinn Historical Park. I couldn't have been more excited to see them! The last time I saw Monica and Brian, they had just said "I do" and were dancing the rest of the night away. Fast forward two years and they have an adorable baby girl who just turned one and their loyal pup Duke. Time really does fly! I can't say enough how special it is for me to have clients who have trusted me not only with their wedding day, but also with capturing special family memories as the years go on. Really, what an honor!
Having just met their daughter, I think she was being a little shy with me, but nevertheless we were determined to get some smiles out of her! She of course was cute as can be. It was pretty funny, being a one-year-old, naturally anything and everything is a toy. So for the majority of the shoot, she was so fascinated with the rocks on the ground, it held her attention even more than Elmo videos! But I'm a strong believer that sometimes the best photos are simply the candid action shots and the in between moments when the kids don't know you're still shooting! Overall, it was a successful shoot. It was so great to catch up and provide Monica and Brian with more memorable photos to add to their collection!
If you're looking to get updated photos for that holiday card this year, email me for more information on a mini session this October 9th! Still booking spots :-)
When Kim initially reached out to me asking for portraits of her daughter and son, she said they might bring their puppy too for the shoot. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE dogs, especially puppies, but on a photo shoot they are often unpredictable and you never know if they're going to listen when you call them or give them a command. This wasn't the case with sweet little Cooper. He was the cutest pup! Seriously, looked like a teddy bear and felt even softer than one! He even looked at the camera when you called him; it was perfect! Having only had him for a week, Karly was definitely in love and couldn't resist his snuggles. Who could blame her? I wanted to cuddle with him too! We grabbed a few photos of just Karly and her brother Chad too, but ended the shoot with the whole family...Cooper included. Enjoy the cuteness below!
Say what you will about Facebook, but personally, it's been a great way for me to connect with friends, family and even clients! Thanks to my lovely sister being friends with various ladies from our high school, Lyra reached out to me for a family photo shoot because she had seen lots of photos of my work that had been posted over the years. Thanks social media! For the shoot, we found a spot just off the beaten path that had these beautiful eucalyptus trees. We had originally planned the shoot for Coyote Hills Regional Park in Fremont, but Lyra found a picture of this location about 10 minutes from the park that looked great. I came a little early to see if I could find the same patch of trees she had seen in the photo (since it was literally just a trail off the road) and to my surprise, I found it! The backdrop of the trees, the dirt path and the light at just the right time of day was perfect for this shoot. Little Aiden had a blast running back and forth on this trail and it kept his spirits high. I bet he slept real well that night after all his running! Enjoy my favorites from the shoot below!
In the final set of images from my mini shoots this year, I've got another darling family of three with SUCH a cute little one year old girl! Emily was so stinkin' adorable, I could have photographed her all evening! She was a mover and shaker and loved my dinosaur friend from Shutter Huggers. She mostly wanted grab it off my lens and play with it though, haha! I had a wonderful time with the Smolen family and just kept shooting till we lost our last bit of sun behind the horizon. I met so many friendly, fun and loving families this year and I'm so grateful to have made new connections with them all. I'm definitely looking forward to next year's round of mini shoots! Follow my blog to be the first to find out when they'll be!
Here's my second session of the week that I shot at Holbrook Palmer Park! Such a cute family with the sweetest little girls. I can tell Addy is a great big sister already to her 6 month-old sister Emily. It was darling watching her try to get her to smile for the photos, even though baby Emily seemed a little camera shy. I love big sisters, since I have two amazing ones of my own! Both of them had such beautiful blue eyes and blonde, blonde hair. Darling girls and I hope I get to photograph them more over the years as they grow up. It was another quick session, but full of giggles and big smiles. Glad I had the opportunity to meet another wonderful family during the holiday season. Big thanks to the Hughes family for connecting us!
When Erin and Aaron first reached out to me looking for photographer for family photos, I was honored! I mean, I'm ALWAYS flattered when any client asks me to photograph them, but this was even more special to me because they had just moved from Arizona and were in the market for a new photographer. And if anyone knows, there are SO many photographers in this area and lots with great talent! They could have contacted any one of them, but I'm so happy they reached out to me! Such a sweet couple and a darling one-year-old baby boy! And if you're curious like I was, red hair runs in the extended part of the family :-) I wish I could have spent more time with them, but being that it was a mini session series I had to cut it off and meet the next family (which will be featured tomorrow)! I think we got some great shots of the happy family of three, although I do hope for many more sessions with them in the future!
The second installment of fall mini shoots is here today! I can't get enough of this hidden gem just outside of Alum Rock in San Jose. I wish this trail had a proper name, but maybe it's best I keep it as my own little secret :D It's the perfect spot for some fall foliage and has enough space to roam around to mix up the background. It was a great location for my session with the Hughes family! They were such a loving bunch with the sweetest little kids. Tanner was full of life and Allie has the brightest blue eyes! Loved our shoot and hope we can do another next year!
I just love fall. The colors, the brisk air, the excuse to wear boots and scarves! Now I have a new favorite thing to add to my list... fall mini sessions! This was my second year offering them to clients and it turned out to be a hit! It was such a great way to meet so many new families and their adorable little kids. Hopefully I'll be able to photograph these families for years to come! First in this week's series of mini sessions, I'm featuring Kate, Mike and Greyson: A fun-loving couple with their sweet little 2 year-old boy. Greyson was a bit of a tough shell to crack at first, but he sure did love when his daddy threw him up in the air! We got the timing down just right...throw him a couple times, laugh and giggle and then click! It's always funny how when I put my camera down, the real smiles always come out. Sometimes I get lucky when we call it a wrap, but then I keep taking shots on the way back to the car. I have my tricks ;-) Big thanks to Kate for setting up this shoot with me. Hope to do more with you guys in the new year!
If you know me at all, you know I love kids. Enough to have worked as a tutor for all ages of elementary school, as a preschool aide, and as a nanny for a family of three! I find my experience with young children has been more than helpful when it comes to photo shoots with little ones! I'm no guru, that's for sure, but I know how to let my guard down, have fun and downright be silly in order to get genuine smiles during my shoots. It's not always easy, especially if the kiddos are fussy or really have no desire to take pictures whatsoever, but it's fulfilling when I finally get those true moments when they crack a smile and open up to the camera for me. The best moments are the giggles, the kisses for mommy or daddy and when they are truly just having a good time!
The next installment of fall mini sessions is here! I got the pleasure of photographing this adorable family last fall and now a year later, I get to see these little boys grow into...taller little boys! :P I love their spunk and energy and those cute little faces melt me! So maybe it was hard for them to sit still, but I just used it as an opportunity for them to run free and play. Grabbed my telephoto lens and snapped a few quick shots! I love working with this family. Nate and Diane are such sweet people and great parents and I can't wait to do more shoots in the coming years with them!
For the past 3 years, I've lived somewhat of a double life. Nanny by day, photographer by golden hour! The family I have nannied for has been one of the biggest blessings of my life. I can't say enough good things about them, really! Not only have they been wonderful employers, but have become amazing friends and a second family to me. They have been supportive of my photography from day one and I am so thankful for their encouragement as my business has grown. Recently, the children's grandma asked me to do a shoot of all the grandkids during their family reunion beach trip at Pajaro Dunes. I was more than happy to make the trip over to Watsonville and just play with everyone! The shoot began with all the formal, posed shots, but I knew I'd get the best stuff when it was just candid, beach fun. So after all the adults had their fill of photos and the kids just wanted to get their suits on and play in the water, I took my camera, plunked down in the sand and just shot away!
One of the best parts about living in California is the proximity to so many beautiful areas! From the beach, to the rustic golden hills, and the lush Redwood forests, the Bay Area has way more to offer than just high-tech cityscapes! For this family shoot, we went up to Sanborn County Park, not far up Highway 9 past the Mountain Winery in Saratoga. There were some great spots to shoot with natural light streaming in through the branches of the towering Redwood trees. They were such a fun and flexible bunch, ready and willing to climb a few hills to get to just the right spots. Thanks for such a wonderful shoot!
What a beautiful family! They came to me with some creative ideas for their family Christmas cards and I was more than happy to play! The first image is by far my favorite. That red and white kind of remind me of a Target ad! :-P But really, I just love how the colors pop! I think it worked perfectly for their Christmas card and I was glad they asked me to come out and do the shoot. Hope everyone is having a lovely holiday season!
The holidays are finally upon us and so are family holiday photos! The Root family invited me to their house nestled in the foothills of San Jose, near Alum Rock Park. They live in a beautiful neighborhood, filled with oak trees and fallen leaves and their neighbor was kind enough to let us shoot in their big yard with a fun tree swing! There's a lot of love in this family and I'm thankful for the opportunity to shoot with them. Looking forward to more photo sessions in the future!
What a TREAT it was to shoot with this lovely family! For starters, they are adorable! The little boys, one just under 2 years old and the other 5, were very well behaved and very photogenic. Their smiles are just precious! Nate and Diane were nothing but kind and friendly parents, just yearning for a full family photo. I'm glad I could help them out ;-) I had a great time with them all and could've kept on shooting till the sun went down! The spot was perfect for a fall shoot. No real name, just a trail off of Penitencia Creek Road just outside of Alum Rock Park in San Jose. A hidden gem, if you will. Enjoy the smiles below and stay tuned for another blog post soon. Next up: Fall Engagement Shoot at Vasona Lake Park!
These precious children were so full of energy for our fall mini session at Picchetti Winery in Cupertino, CA. Each year I've been able to photograph them as they grow up and it's been such a treat. Jeremiah and Levi are always such hams, but they are so cute! They are the epitome of little boys being boys! With the addition of little sister Lianna, this trio takes some of the sweetest photos. The whole family has been near and dear to my heart for the past three years, and soon they will be moving up to the northwest state of Washington! They will be very missed, but I hope we get a chance to do another family shoot later down the line when they visit the Bay Area. ;-)
