Taking the trip out to the Monterey area for this Berwick Park engagement shoot was so worth it! Katie and Joey were such a treat to photograph. From the minute we began, they were cracking jokes left and right. We all definitely were laughing the whole way through and that's exactly the way I want every shoot to flow. I love that they chose to incorporate not only the city they first met in, but also the specific bench (lovingly referred to as the "Donut Bench") where Joey proposed! Over looking the beautiful Monterey Bay, I'd say this was the perfect spot for a proposal and subsequently for their engagement shoot. We lucked out with the weather too; no fog, and perfect golden light filtering through the cypress trees! Very excited for another wedding at the lovely Picchetti Winery this fall!

I just had thee best Labor Day weekend! Normally my husband goes out of town for a guys trip and I'm home, by myself, being bored. But this year we changed it up and I got to see ALL my family and celebrate my sister Marissa's engagement!! She flew out from New Jersey with her new fiancè Tony and the rest of us drove down to LA to meet up at my other sister's house! There is no place I'd rather be than with my whole family and that's just what I got :-D It was just perfect.
With a newly engaged sister, I couldn't let the weekend slip by without doing some engagement photos! Marissa really just wanted one good picture for their Save the Dates, but I couldn't take just ONE photo! We headed down to the beach just in time to catch that California golden hour settling upon the ocean. With only 40 minutes on the parking meter, we hustled! I have to say, these two were naturals. It was so heartwarming to see Marissa light up with him and watch them laugh together. I'm so grateful my sister found the man she's been looking for all these years. He's someone I know will take care of her and love her through thick and thin and a guy who makes her happier than I've ever seen her before. I literally couldn't be more excited for them and I'm counting the days till the wedding next year!!
For me, photography is an art. It's an outlet, a vision, and a canvas. There's obviously different types of photography, whether it's the subject matter or the style of editing, but it's subjective I believe. I've been a photographer for roughly 7 years now (give or take some college years) and it's been quite the journey to finding my style, my preference and really honing in on what makes my photography my own! I'm sure my art will evolve, as most artists' work does, but that's what keeps it fresh, modern and interesting, right?
I've found over the years, that while I do love photographing people and the organic moments that unfold between a bride and groom or a mom and son (whatever it may be), I also enjoy traveling and capturing beautiful landscapes. It's funny though, even though I've had the amazing opportunity to travel to numerous countries around the world, one of my favorite photos was taken just recently at an engagement shoot in my own backyard! Well not literally my own backyard, being that I don't actually have a backyard, but just an hour away in the heart of the Bay Area: San Francisco!
It was literally my last shot of the session and the sun was just about to set, which made for the perfect silhouetting of the Golden Gate Bridge. I had just finished taking some macro shots of the engagement ring and stood up to see this gorgeous scene before my eyes. I didn't give my lens much thought and just snapped the photo. Sometimes a picture doesn't need much thought, just a good eye for what's already in front of you! There really is something so magical about that "golden hour" though. Depending on your camera settings, it can make for some bright and ethereal shots or more dramatic, silhouettes. Below the photo you'll see the camera and settings, in case you ever want to try to recreate it yourself!
This photo is apart of the #VantagePoint project for the company, Light, who will be releasing their new compact camera later on this year! If you're interested in seeing more photos from the Vantage Point project, check out their Pinterest board.
The second installment of fall mini shoots is here today! I can't get enough of this hidden gem just outside of Alum Rock in San Jose. I wish this trail had a proper name, but maybe it's best I keep it as my own little secret :D It's the perfect spot for some fall foliage and has enough space to roam around to mix up the background. It was a great location for my session with the Hughes family! They were such a loving bunch with the sweetest little kids. Tanner was full of life and Allie has the brightest blue eyes! Loved our shoot and hope we can do another next year!
Baby bumps, bellies, and the expectations of a new life! Pregnancy is such a fascinating and beautiful thing to me. I have yet to experience it, but I admire each and every woman who has endured it and brought a life into the world! I had the honor of photographing Jennifer and her family as they fast approached the birth of their second child. Jennifer gave birth only 3 1/2 weeks after this shoot and she was such a trooper! We trekked down to 4 Mile Beach in Santa Cruz, just off highway 1 and we caught some gorgeous light. Their adorable 2-year old daughter Darla was being camera shy, but I was able to snap some moments of her precious smile and curiosity with the sand. Baby Dakota is growing fast and strong now. I even got to meet the little one last week! From the belly to a baby in the big world--it's just amazing how life forms.
I had such a fun time traveling out to the coast to photograph this engagement shoot in Watsonville! Becky has been a long time family friend and I was honored that she wanted me to be her wedding photographer. In fact, her wedding is just around the corner! Looking forward to shooting it on June 14th at Roaring Camp Railroads in Felton, CA. Mitchell and Becky were such good sports trekking around the property to find the best spots and ideal lighting, not to mention avoiding the poison oak! We got some beautiful shots on the beach as well and I'm so excited to share them with you. Check back soon for their wedding pictures!
