Channing Baby & Co: Boutique Tacoma Shop Perfect for Young Families and Moms with Style
Pregnant mamas and stylish parents alike, have you heard of Channing Baby & Co? It’s an adorable kids boutique shop in the heart of Tacoma, on Pacific just down the street from the Tacoma UW campus. It’s full of books, toys, baby gear and clothes for the moms who like to dress their kids in style!
I thought this was the perfect spot for parents who are expecting their first baby and need lots of essentials like strollers or high chairs. Also a great stop for finding adorable outfits for your next photo shoot or just some summer clothes! I had the pleasure of a quick interview with Krystal, the founder and owner of Channing Baby & Co. Here’s what we talked about!
How did Channing Baby & Co. get started and when?
Channing Baby & Co. was started in 2017. At the time, I was working for another company and commuting to Bellevue with a one-year-old while pregnant with my second child. The commute became unmanageable, and I recognized the need for a baby store in my hometown of Tacoma. Therefore, with a one-and-a-half-year-old and a four-month-old, we opened Channing Baby & Co.
What was the inspiration for starting this business? Who are you hoping to serve?
At my previous job, I sold baby gear and loved chatting with customers, making new friends who were in the same stage of life as me. By opening our own business in Tacoma, I was excited to build connections and serve other parents.
What are some of your most popular items and brands?
Our most popular brands are Uppababy, Nuna, Little Bipsy, Rylee + Cru, Quincy Mae, and Jellycat.
What do you carry in the clothing department that would work well for a family or newborn photo shoot?
For family photo shoots, we love to style coordinating outfits from Rylee + Cru. I also love the simplicity of basics from Little Bipsy for photos. Some of my favorite photos of my kids feature them in just basic tees and jeans from Little Bipsy.
Why is shopping local or supporting a small business so important for your store?
Shopping local and supporting small businesses is crucial; without small businesses, you have no community. Supporting a family that reinvests their money into other local businesses helps build your city and creates a stronger community.
What do you want to be known for as a local boutique?
As a local boutique, we want to be known for providing high-quality, thoughtfully curated baby products and apparel while fostering a strong sense of community. We aim to offer personalized service, build lasting relationships with our customers, and support other local businesses to help our community thrive.
