Motherhood Session at Fort Steilacoom Park

This was such a sweet, carefree session and it left me wanting so many more like this! I met up with Leatrice and her sweet 1-year-old at Fort Steilacoom Park over in Lakewood, WA. The sun so badly wanted to come through, but only made a slight appearance in the end. I was pleasantly surprised by the lovey blossom trees we had blooming! I actually didn’t even know these were there till I arrived and I was glad to have incorporated them in this spring motherhood session. It was fun for Rex to play with the flowers and created a nice backdrop for these intimate moments between mother and son. I really wanted to focus part of the shoot on the bond of nursing! It’s such a wonderful thing we are gifted as mothers. Don’t get me wrong, it can be hard work, (especially when you end up being the one with all the middle-of-the-night feedings) but there is also such a beauty to it. To be able to feed your child with nourishment and love is remarkable to me. I myself nursed both my girls for over a year and a half (nearly 4 years combined!) and you should see how attached they are to me, haha! I can hardly leave for a shoot without them wailing for me to stay! I joke that it’s because I nursed them so long, our hearts have been fused together and maybe our hips too, lol.

For a nursing session, and really all my family shoots, I want to create a safe and comfortable space for you to feel at ease. My goal is to allow moments to arise naturally and to let your true self show in your photos. I always think of my photography as a small time capsule for you to look back on. We think we’ll always remember the way their hand rested on our chest while they nursed or their toothy grin when they got tickled, but in reality, these little moments that seem so prevalent at the time, fade in our memories and then we only have the photos to remember it all by. As a mom, I see the value of photography even more than I used to when I first started my business pre-kids. Hopefully you will too and you’ll find a way to capture these fleeting moments before your kids are all grown!

Styling this Session

In case you’re digging these clothes, you’ll be excited to know I have both outfits available for use in my client closet! The dress is Baltic Born (size S) and the cute suspender set is from H&M (size 12-18). I have other options in my closet and will be adding more in the next coming months so don’t hesitate to ask!
