Fall Mini Sessions for Families Near Seattle & Tacoma
My favorite time of year has long been fall. I enjoy the crisp air perfect for soft, oversized sweaters, the leaves changing colors and grabbing a warm drink at my favorite coffee shop. It's just a beautiful time of year and full of fun holidays and activities! Plus, doesn’t it always smell better or is it just me?
Fall sessions are also extremely popular for a number of reasons, including senior portrait deadlines, families trying to get their holiday cards ordered or people realizing the year is almost through and they need updated photos! Oh and did I mention, fall mini sessions are crazy popular because they are short and sweet sessions, perfect for busy families who want updated portraits on a budget.
What is a Mini Session?
A mini session (or a mini shoot) is a shortened photo shoot, usually 10-20 minutes depending on the photographer’s package. A photographer will pick the date, times and location of the photo sessions and normally schedule the shoots back to back.
For my packages, each fall mini session includes a 10-minute time slot at a beautiful location chosen by your trusted photographer (me)! You'll also get to choose 10 of your favorite photos, delivered via an online gallery, ready to download, print, and share. Rates vary, but are always more budget-friendly and affordable than full photo shoots, which are typically 1-hour long.
One of my favorite locations for fall minis is Tehaleh in Bonney Lake. With its scenic trails, mountain views, and vibrant fall colors, it’s the perfect backdrop for that Washington fall vibe.
Is a Mini Session Right for Me?
There are definitely pros and cons to booking a mini shoot. Some things to consider when deciding on a mini versus a full session would be whether you care about a specific look or location. Since I always choose the location for a mini shoot event, there’s no flexibility for the client on that or the date. Not everyone can make it on the date I schedule my event, so this is something to consider.
The other big factor is the amount of time allotted for your shoot. While I can get a lot of variety in a short amount of time, mini sessions are quite quick and don’t allow that same amount of exploration for young kids and families that I always encourage during a full length shoot. To fit enough photos in a short amount of time, I’m directing a lot more than I normally do during a longer shoot. For my full sessions, there’s more time to play, connect and get comfortable in front of the camera. Sometimes this will make a difference for those who are more shy and reserved!
What to Wear for a Fall Mini Session
Styling your session doesn’t have to be overwhelming because I’m here to help! I actually love being a part of your wardrobe decisions and am happy to help you decide between this dress or that dress.
Some popular fall colors include forest green accented by maroon, or a rusty red or burnt orange complimented by a chambray blue. I always recommend limiting patterns to only one person if there are 5 people or less, otherwise is can be busy and distracting. If you’re hoping for some visuals, I’ve got you covered!

A September mini session is the perfect time to book a mini shoot, when the leaves are just starting to turn. They fill up quickly every year, and I keep the number of time slots limited so each family gets the best experience.
If you’ve been putting off booking your family session, this is your sign to make it happen! Come play surrounded by the colorful leaves, cuddle close, and let me take care of capturing the joy and connection that makes your family yours.
Spots are limited so be sure to grab your time slot before they’re gone! I may add another date in October in case September fills up too fast!
